Rates and Rebates

Is Vein Treatment Covered by Medicare?

Some of our services are eligible for Medicare rebates. When you come in for a service eligible for a medicare rebate, you pay the total fee and then we send the details to Medicare so you can receive your rebate.

Except for the smaller spider veins (which are considered cosmetic), you can claim all rebates through Medicare. In Australia, the Medicare Safety Net reimburses eligible applicants when they have reached the threshold.

Out of Pocket Costs

Below you can see a breakdown of the estimated out-of-pocket costs from QLD Veins. Out of pocket costs will additionally be explained when you come in for your first appointment at the clinic.

Initial Consultation

30 minute consultation with the head doctor. The cost is $170.30, with a Medicare rebate of $82.90.

Ultrasound Scan

Post first appointment, the Doctor will request an ultrasound, that is provided in the clinic. The out of pocket fee for the ultrasound is $170 for both legs, or $85 if ultrasound is only required for a single leg.

Spider Vein Treatment

You’ll likely require multiple sessions with a Vein doctor. Depending on the severity of the veins, the cost can range from $500 – $1,500 for both legs.

Varicose Vein Treatment

One session with a vein doctor is enough to perform the recommended treatment. You may need multiple Sclerotherapy sessions with a Phlebologist to treat smaller veins in the affected area. You will likely need to follow a post-care plan including compression stockings, ranging from $500 – $3,000 per leg.
